The Harrisburg Senators find themselves in the middle of many changes
surrounding the team. A new major league affiliate in the Washington
Nationals this season and a new stadium on the way for next year. So
it would just make sense for the team to have new leadership on the
field. They have it for the 2005 season in Manager Keith Bodie.
Bodie comes to Harrisburg with a wealth of experience and has moved
into a situation in which the Senators have had the worst record in the
Eastern League over the past two seasons. Bodie is up for the task.
It will be the first season for Bodie with the organization which was
based in Montreal until this year. He spent the last five seasons with
the Kansas City Royals chain, mostly as a minor league manager.
Bodie becomes
the 14th manager in the Senators’ modern history,
which began when the team returned to City Island in 1987. He replaces
Dave Machemer, the Senators skipper the last two seasons, who will return
to Commerce Bank Park as the skipper of the Norwich Navigators this year.
The 2005 season
is the 13th minor league season for Bodie as a full-time manager. He
began his minor league managing career in Auburn, NY in 1986. Since
that time, his teams have made the playoffs seven times; including
four straight playoff appearances with AA-Wichita from 2000-2003. Last
year, Bodie served as the Royals’ Roving Outfield Instructor.
Washington is the fifth organization for Bodie as a minor league manager.
He has worked for Houston, San Francisco, Seattle and Kansas City over
his long career.
Bodie, who was 49 years of age on opening day, was originally selected
by the New York Mets in the third round of the 1974 draft. He spends
his off-seasons in Arizona with his wife Stacy and children Brittney,
Breeana and Robert.
