SENATORS GAIN SPLIT WITH NEW BRITAIN WITH 5-2 WIN
Marco Estrada picks up fifth win with strong outing
The Senators and New Britain Rock Cats wrapped up their four-game series Thursday morning with the Sens coming out on top 5-2. The league's two highest scoring offenses were held in check all four games as the teams split their four-game series. Estrada picked up the win, pitching six strong innings but it didn't start that way. The first two hitters reached and scored for New Britain to give them a 2-0 lead. But the Senators then scored the final five runs in the game beginning with a two-out two-run home run off the bat of Luke Montz in the third inning to tie the game. Luis Jimenez drove in the go ahead run with a two-out single in the fifth. The Sens broke the game open in the eighth when the newest Senator Garrett Guzman singled in two runs with a two-out bases loaded single to make it 5-2. All five runs the Senators scored on Thursday came on two-out hits. Estrada allowed two hits, two runs, three walks and three strikeouts. He becomes the first Senators' pitcher to win five games this season. Steve Schmoll retired the final two batters for his third save on the season. The Sens used four relievers and all told they combined to go three innings without allowing a run on just two hits. The Senators moved to 27-15 on the season, the third time this year they have been twelve games over .500 but they have not yet been 13 games over .500. Harrisburg begins a four-game series on Friday night against the Connecticut Defenders. LH Cory VanAllen makes the start for the Senators. Game time Friday night is at 6:35pm.
