SENATORS GAME RECAP

SENATORS FALL TO TRENTON, 8-4
Thunder cruises on early lead

The Harrisburg Senators got behind early against the Trenton Thunder and never recovered, losing the final game of the series, 8-4. The teams split the four-game series at Waterfront Park.

Harrisburg jumped ahead in the top of the first when Roger Bernadina was hit by a Chase Wright pitch. Bernadina stole second and scored when Justin Maxwell lined a triple into the gap in right-center to make it 1-0 Senators.

Trenton came back with a pair of flurries. In the bottom of the second, Marcos Vechionacci ripped a bases-loaded single to tie the game. Kevin Russo followed by finding the gap in left-center for a three-run double to make it 4-1. Two walks later, Harrisburg starter Ismael Ramirez induced an inning-ending double play.

Ramirez retired the first two batters in the third inning, but five straight Thunder hitters reached to post three runs. Vechionacci stroked a two-run double to left-center and came around to score on a single by Ramiro Pena to extend the Trenton lead to 7-1.

The Senators scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning off reliever Bo Hall. With two out, Luke Montz hit a bases-loaded single to left to plate two and cut the deficit to 7-3.

Trenton scored its final run in the eighth. With runners at the corners, Colin Curtis singled to center to make it 8-3. An RBI single by Jorge Padilla, who went 3-for-5, finished the scoring.

Wright (2-1) was the winning pitcher for the Thunder, who upped their record to 6-5. Ramirez (0-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven runs in five innings. The Senators drop to 6-4 and head to Reading for a three-game series against the Phillies. The Senators return to Commerce Bank Park on Thursday for a six-game homestand against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Erie SeaWolves.
